• Everyone's an Artist

A 2-hour workshop where you'll remember what it feels like to make something with your hands

November 1st, 12:30-2:30pm, Dana Point Harbor

Save My Spot - Only 8 Available

  • We spend all day staring at screens.

Days seem to go by fast but we constantly feel behind. We scroll until our thumbs hurt and our eyes glaze over.

And somewhere underneath all of that, there's this quiet little voice going: "I miss making things."

Just... making things. Because it feels good. Because it's magic watching something appear that wasn't there before.

That's what this workshop is designed to help you do.

Whether you are a seasoned photographer, have done cyanotype before, or just want to be part of something creative.. you'll find something here for you.

    FAQ's

What if I mess up my print? Perfect. That's part of the process. We have extra materials. Experimentation is encouraged.

What if it rains? We'll reschedule. Cyanotype needs sun.

Can I bring a friend? Absolutely. Just book two spots.

What if I don't have a photo to send? You can make beautiful prints with just botanicals. The photo is optional.

Where will we meet? I will send you an email with the exact location and parking instructions.

What exactly will I receive? Everyone will receive three 8x10" photo papers prepped with cyanotype chemicals (non-toxic iron salts) to use during the workshop.

How do I get my photo negative? Choose a favorite photo - I encourage you to choose one photo that has high contrast and looks good in black and white. Email your one photo to maddysalty@gmail.com at least 24 hours before the workshop and I will print your negative on 8.5"x11" acetate and bring it to the workshop. I will send you a reminder via email before the workshop. You will get to keep this negative forever as you continue your cyanotype experiments.

  • This workshop is for you if:

    • You've been telling yourself you're "not creative" for so long you almost believe it.
    • You miss making things with your hands but keep putting it off because you're too busy/tired/not good enough.
    • You and want to create something yourself or as a gift.
    • You want an afternoon where you're allowed to be useless - no productivity, no overachieving, no scrolling, just being human and making art.
    • You're looking for a date or BFF activity that doesn't involve staring at a screen or making small talk at a bar.
    • You want to make something beautiful you can frame or give as a gift - something that says "I made this" not "I bought this."
  • You don't have to be "good" at this. You don't need experience. You don't need to know anything about photography or art or chemistry. You don’t even need to consider yourself a “creative person” (let me show you!)

You just need to show up.

Because everyone's an artist. You just forgot. Or someone told you that you weren't. Or you convinced yourself that "real" artists are other people, not you.

    But that's just not true.

Making art doesn’t require unspoken natural talent or special training or an eye for an Instagram-worthy aesthetic. Art happens in the moment, as it should. The moment you arrange flowers on paper and think "oh, this could be beautiful”. That’s all art is. It's watching your image appear in the water and feeling that little spark of "I made that".

That spark is what this workshop is about.
    That's what you're taking home.

Photo + Botanical Cyanotype Workshop

Two hours by the water. Sun on your face. Hands in the developer tray. That moment when your image appears and you think "oh, I'm an artist."

That's what we're doing.

Come make something beautiful.
